2023 FORD EDGE

Doing it all right

The 2023 Ford Edge is not new. But even though it has been in the Ford catalogue for a few years, it continues to fulfill its mission with elegance and efficiency. The many modifications, sometimes minute, made for 2023 make it even more attractive to those who want a comfortable vehicle with undeniable qualities.

Physically, the Ford Edge changes little. Neither the shape nor the dimensions of the vehicle have been changed. In particular, it retains its easily recognizable grille and its slightly stocky proportions, which give it a look of solidity and refinement. The only real aesthetic evolution is the introduction of a range of wheels from 18 to 20 inches on the standard versions and even 21 inches on the ST version. Alloy, bright or brushed aluminum wheels confirm the modern look of this mid-size SUV.

Impressive mechanics

To power this Ford Edge, Ford relies on two turbocharged engines from the Ecoboost family. Most versions use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. But a more dynamic, more muscular version is also part of the Edge's catalogue. It's the ST version, equipped with a 2.7-litre V6 that produces 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

This type of engine provides frank and pleasant accelerations, especially when paired with an 8- speed automatic transmission renowned for its smoothness.

Several versions

Basic Edge SE is offered strictly with all-wheel drive. To opt for a front-wheel-drive version, go to the SEL, which offers both options. The next model, the new ST-Line, is also available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Still, it doesn't provide all the power of the most dynamic Edge model despite its name. Instead, it's an attractive package and doesn't have the more powerful engine of the ST. The all-wheel-drive-only Titanium version complements the 2.0L engine lineup, while the V6-powered ST is also all-wheel-drive-only.

The switch from SE to SEL adds features such as an auto-dimming mirror, remote starter, power heated front seats (with three heat settings), roof rails, a reverse gear detection system in addition to the standard rearview camera, and an exterior entry keypad. This can become handy if you don't want to carry the key to the beach or on your hike. Opt for the Titanium, and you get a hands-free tailgate, power steering column, wireless phone charging, premium sound system, leather seats and a few more ringtones and whistles.

A Connected Vehicle

In the Ford Edge, the interior is designed for comfort and space. It's got plenty of room and plenty of accessories. In particular, a touch screen houses the Sync 4 system that has long been recognized as one of the best in the industry. Especially since this is the latest update of the most advanced system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, as is Bluetooth connectivity.

When it comes to safety, too, the Ford Edge stands out. All models are equipped with the Ford Co-Pilot360. This package includes Blind Spot Monitoring, Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Assist, Emergency Front Brake with Pedestrian Detection and Automatic High Beams. A more refined version, called CoPilot 360 Plus, is also available as an option. It adds numerous other driver assistance features that enhance occupant safety.

For 2023, it's mainly comfort features, such as adding a heated steering wheel standard on the Titanium or acoustic windows that improve soundproofing on all versions, that are attracting attention. No matter which version you choose, the Ford Edge 2023 combines comfort and fun and can even add performance. How many other family SUVs can say the same?
