It’s that time of year again. Christmas is approaching, too quickly for some and for others not quickly enough. For me Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. It can be very hectic, but it’s a time to get back in touch with my inner child, and to regain a small bit of that sense of wonder that children feel most acutely as the holidays close in.
For Many It’s Not an Easy Time
Here’s a scary statistic for you. According to the 2016 Report Card on Child and Family Poverty in Nova Scotia, more than 1 in 5 children are living in poverty. Nova Scotia now has the third-highest provincial child poverty rate in Canada, and the highest rate in Atlantic Canada.
Sobering, isn’t it?
Where most this time of year dream of Christmas celebrations, decorations, presents and feasts, there are many who look to Christmas with a sense of dread. How do you afford Christmas when it’s a struggle to just put a roof over your family’s head?
At this time of year, perhaps more than any other, those who have should take the time to think about those who have not.
