Toy Drive Time

It’s that time of year again. Christmas is approaching, too quickly for some and for others not quickly enough. For me Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. It can be very hectic, but it’s a time to get back in touch with my inner child, and to regain a small bit of that sense of wonder that children feel most acutely as the holidays close in.

For Many It’s Not an Easy Time

Here’s a scary statistic for you. According to the 2016 Report Card on Child and Family Poverty in Nova Scotia, more than 1 in 5 children are living in poverty. Nova Scotia now has the third-highest provincial child poverty rate in Canada, and the highest rate in Atlantic Canada.

Sobering, isn’t it?

Where most this time of year dream of Christmas celebrations, decorations, presents and feasts, there are many who look to Christmas with a sense of dread. How do you afford Christmas when it’s a struggle to just put a roof over your family’s head?

At this time of year, perhaps more than any other, those who have should take the time to think about those who have not.

2016’s Toy Drive Donations

Every Child Deserves a Toy at Christmas

Every year around this time, Tusket Ford conducts a Toy Drive in association with the fine people at the Salvation Army.  The Salvation Army provides support to those in need with their Christmas hamper program. Thousands of families around the Maritimes will receive support – food for Christmas dinner, and gifts for the family – to help make Christmas a little brighter.  The organization does amazing work this time of year.

A trip to the Salvation Army Church in Yarmouth during the Christmas Season is a real eye opener. The halls are lined with Christmas Hampers. On top of the hampers are lists of who is in the family, and what presents the children are asking for this year. Then it’s to the rooms where toys are kept and organized. There is food as well. It’s an amazing thing; both heartbreaking that so many are in need, and inspiring that these people are here to help.

The Tusket Ford Santa Truck

Every year Tusket Ford is proud to pitch in and help out. We organize a Toy Drive in association with the Salvation Army to bring toys to every child in need.  Every year we accept donations of new unwrapped toys here at the Dealership and at a couple of different locations in the area.

We pick out a new F-150, decorate it up and call it “Santa’s Truck”. From now until December 11th you can look for Santa’s Truck in Yarmouth, in front of stores in the area. All you have to do is put your toy donation in the cab of the truck; we handle it from there.

We also will take Santa’s Truck to the Yarmouth Parade of Lights, which is this Saturday Evening. Santa’s Truck will be in the parade and you can hand the Presents to the driver as it passes by.

We’re also taking the Toy Drive to the Yarmouth Mariners/Truro Bearcats hockey game at the Mariner’s Centre on Friday December 1st.

Gathering Everything Together

On December 11th we will bring all the toys collected over to the Salvation Army so that they can distribute them in their Christmas Hampers on December 21st, just a few days before Christmas. In addition, for every toy collected Tusket Ford will donate $5 to the cause, so that other supplies needed for the Christmas Hampers can be bought.

At Tusket Ford we believe that every child deserves to have a Merry Christmas, and we are proud to be able to contribute in some small way to that goal. We would like to say a special, sincere “THANK YOU!” to everyone who donates year after year to help make that dream a reality.

Merry Christmas!
